How it is calculated
The energy factors come from Annex XIV of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011: alcohol 29 kJ/g (7 kcal/g) at a density of 0.79 g/ml, sugar 17 kJ/g (4 kcal/g), organic acids 13 kJ/g (3 kcal/g) and polyols 10 kJ/g (2.4 kcal/g). Values per litre are converted to 100 ml, and the energy value is rounded up. Fat, protein and salt occur in wine only in traces and are stated as 0.
Example: a dry Grüner Veltliner with 12.5 % vol, 2 g/l residual sugar, 6 g/l acidity and 7 g/l glycerol has about 305 kJ / 74 kcal per 100 ml.
What else must go on the label is explained in the guide to the EU regulation.
The calculation is guidance based on your analysis values, not legal advice. Whoever places the wine on the market is responsible for the information on the label.
